About the role

The Industrial Engineer will evaluate current manufacturing practices, manage production schedules, process work flows, enforce quality control, and improve production processes across the 4 public shipyards (PHNS, PSNS, PNSY, and NNSY) on behalf of PMO 555. This position does not allow for telecommuting and all work will be performed on-site in at one of the following Naval Shipyards: Kittery, ME, Norfolk, VA, Bremerton, WA, or Washington, DC, with travel to the other Shipyards as required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate current manufacturing practices
  • Manage production schedules
  • Process work flows
  • Enforce quality control
  • Improve production processes across the 4 public shipyards
  • Manage Modeling and Simulation (MODSIM) efforts across the shipyards to track layouts, floor plans, and equipment staging to ensure lean, streamlined access and up-to-date logs (utilizing RFID or other tracking tools)
  • Use of both basic and advanced calculations to determine the current and potential productivity of a process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for an Industrial Engineer
  • Develop relationships with coworkers when making recommendations
  • Create viable solutions for a variety of challenges
  • Analyse data and create reports to describe results for leadership and stakeholders

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering or civil engineering or related field i.e., Modeling and Simulation, or Production Management
  • Seven or more (7+) years relevant expertise and experience as an Industrial or Manufacturing Engineer designing and developing production layouts for shipyards, production facilities, warehouses, and/or machine shops to increase productivity and quality standards
  • Candidates with a Master's in Engineering will be considered in lieu of some experience
  • Shipyard experience is required
  • Experience reviewing current production schedules and processes to find potential improvements, designing the layouts of the facilities and estimating production costs

Qualifications

  • Highly Desired: PE Certification, Modeling and Simulation experience, Operations Research, Shipyard experience including Machine Shop, or Factory Production experience

Pay

$110,000/year to $140,000/year, commensurate with experience

Security Clearance

Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
