Industrial Electrician
Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations. The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.
About the role
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor, the incumbent performs electrical repairs, installations, inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical lines, machinery and equipment on the mine site while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair AC/DC drive systems, AC/DC motors, electrical shovel, electrical power distribution, protection systems, metering, PLC’s, and lighting systems.
- Create and research existing work orders in JDE. Read, comprehend, and interpret instrumentation data sheets, schematics, P&IDs, blueprints, and instructional guides.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of computers, including the ability to load and run equipment-specific software and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint).
- Use JDE to procure parts from the warehouse and review and enter equipment history.
- Read, comprehend, and interpret the National Electric Code and install and maintain according to this guideline.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of installation and design of electrical equipment circuits up to 15 KV.
- Possess basic construction skills, including conduit fitting and layout (run rise offset, laterals, and saddles).
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including basic wiring, circuit installation, cables, and switchgear up to 15 KV.
- Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and install lighting fixtures, welders, grinders, and power tools.
- Possess basic knowledge of control systems and troubleshoot and repair field instruments and devices.
- Demonstrate general knowledge and theory of operation for a PLC, including troubleshooting and repair of PLC and associated auxiliary components, identifying components and their function, navigating ladder logic, and identifying faults.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of DCS and auxiliary components.
- Demonstrate general knowledge and theory of a VFD, including troubleshooting and repair, knowledge of associated components, identifying components and their function, and navigating the programming screen to identify faults.
- Possess basic motor knowledge to troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and install electric motors, including general knowledge of motor control starters and associated components.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of flow, pressure, temperature, level, pH, and devices, as well as control loops (automatic, manual, and cascade).
- Effectively troubleshoot and repair process instruments and demonstrate general knowledge of process circuits and their interaction with process control instruments.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of control valves.
- Maintain accurate documentation and effective communication for installations, calibrations, and modifications of instruments.
- Move, haul, and lift equipment as required by the repair or maintenance being performed.
- Learn to order parts, specify certain parts when ordering, and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Train for higher levels of responsibility.
- Manage the RMGC Environmental Health and Safety Management system in areas of responsibility.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
- Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
- Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in job performance.
- Work without risk or harm to self and others.
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance.
- Help develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
- Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Knowledge of electronics and electrical power.
- Constant awareness of personal safety and understanding of actions that can lead to dangerous reactions, including knowledge of proper safety steps for each job.
- Capability to lift and haul equipment necessary to complete each job.
- Ability to accurately complete appropriate paperwork associated with ordering parts.
- Electrical background required; either a college or technical degree or Journeyman status.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Industrial Electrical Maintenance.
- Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors in a general industrial environment.
- May be asked to work straight days or shiftwork with overtime as needed.
- Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
- Working knowledge and skill with PC utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of the management team.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills.
- Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to meet “Authorized User” requirements for High Risk Activities, including but not limited to Fall Protection and Confined Space, as required by job duties, departments, and Round Mountain Gold Corporation’s Permit to Work policies.
