About the role

Under some supervision, you will provide creative user-centric concept ideation through discovery research, data visualization, problem framing, sketching, 3D rendering, 3D CAD, and prototyping. You’ll work on multiple product categories with mentorship from senior designers, applying intermediate theoretical principles and judgment to evaluate and develop design concepts that meet project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist higher-level designers with high-impact design tasks and learn from their guidance.
  • Support the design process of projects under mentorship.
  • Apply design skills including sketching, CAD modeling, understanding of CMF (Color, Material, Finish), and manufacturing techniques.
  • Create visual representations of design ideas through sketching or 3D modeling tools.
  • Use problem-solving skills to identify and address design challenges creatively.
  • Understand customer needs and ergonomics with support from mentors, turning them into essential innovations.
  • Attend Voice of Customer (VOC) sessions regularly to develop a basic understanding of customer needs.
  • Develop industrial design specifications and analyze intended product use to optimize function and value.
  • Prepare documents to document design intent and officially release them in the company database.
  • Prioritize projects to align with team goals under the guidance of the Industrial Design Manager or Lead Industrial Designer.
  • Ensure final designs meet product specifications, quality, cost goals, and manufacturing standards.
  • Review progress on all active projects consistently and provide accurate updates to maintain timelines.
  • Proactively collaborate with engineering, product management, CAD designers, and PMM in New Product Development (NPD) teams.
  • Work with internal departments, plants, facilities, outside vendors, and component suppliers.
  • Apply basic knowledge of graphic design to create product artwork with mentorship support.
  • Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design.
  • 1.5 to 4 years of Industrial Design experience.
  • Intermediate ability to generate innovative design ideas.
  • Problem-solving skills to creatively address design challenges.
  • Proficiency in traditional industrial design sketching or computerized drawing techniques.
  • Technical skills in SolidWorks, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro), and KeyShot (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills to articulate design concepts and collaborate effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook).
  • Basic analytical skills to understand user needs and market trends.
  • Design thinking to apply a user-centered approach.
  • Strong team focus and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects/tools; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Travel

10% travel (approximately 3 days per month), including international travel. Candidates must be willing and able to travel internationally as needed.
