Industrial Design Engineer, GES NA Ops Engineering

About the role

This role challenges you to design and implement groundbreaking solutions for automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. As an Industrial Design Engineer (IDE), you will collaborate with internal and external technical teams to design, develop, and deploy material handling systems across multiple building types.

This role requires up to 50% travel and availability to work from a corporate office when not traveling. Candidates should either live near or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate efforts to develop optimal solutions and processes for the sortation and transportation network through process design, site layout, equipment specification, and intellectual property considerations.
• Work with internal customers across multiple organizations to define highly ambiguous problem statements and develop technical specifications for equipment evaluation and deployment.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time.
• Deeply understand the business and technical requirements of product integration from mechanical, electrical, and controls functions.
• Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors.
• Evaluate solutions effectively and make decisions that balance business value and technology risk.
• Help your customers and the engineering teams make appropriate trade-offs by considering the larger picture (e.g., business goals, throughput expectations, quality requirements, efficiency, maintainability, operability).
• Identify standards and drive consistent application of engineering changes across North America.
• Build strong working relationships with Fulfillment Center (FC) leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites including Industrial Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, and Process Engineering stakeholders.
• Data mine and transform raw thoughts into clear technical documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or above in engineering or equivalent.
• 4+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience.
• Experience using business or technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.
• Experience in Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related work.
• Experience using Lean Process Improvement, Six Sigma methodologies or related performance metrics/process improvements to increase efficiency within processes, forecasting, planning, optimization, and logistics.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, or experience working with customers with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
• Experience managing multiple projects and priorities across teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Experience using data and metrics to back up assumptions, evaluate outcomes, and make data-driven decisions.
• Experience in ownership of projects and communicating timelines and executing independently.
• Up to 50% travel required. Travel involves air travel to regional airports and driving to site locations. A valid driver's license is required due to project assignments in areas with limited public transportation and rideshare options.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, electronic system design, and decision making.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL and VBA.
• Master's degree or above in engineering or equivalent.
• Experience working with and managing third-party vendors.

Pay

The base salary range for this position varies by location:

• San Francisco, CA: $114,200 - $185,000 USD annually.
• Boston, MA: $99,300 - $160,000 USD annually.
• New York, NY: $109,200 - $185,000 USD annually.
• Nashville, TN: $94,300 - $160,000 USD annually.
• Austin, TX: $99,300 - $160,000 USD annually.
• Houston, TX: $99,300 - $160,000 USD annually.
• Irving, TX: $99,300 - $160,000 USD annually.
• Arlington, VA: $99,300 - $160,000 USD annually.
• Bellevue, WA: $99,300 - $160,000 USD annually.

About The Team

The Tiger Team leverages Lean methodology and continuous improvement skill sets to tackle complex, high-visibility material handling equipment (MHE) performance challenges. Upon solving a systemic problem at one site, they scale and systematize their solution to similar site footprints. The Tiger Team plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of First and Middle Mile operations post-Go-Live, providing comprehensive support throughout the entire lifecycle of MHE installations, focusing on key areas such as continuous improvement initiatives, performance optimization, and technical problem resolution.
