About the Role

The Industrial Automation Specialist is responsible for driving sales growth and providing pre-sales and post-sales support for a specific group of automation products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed sales goals for assigned technology offerings.
  • Develop sales strategies, promotions, programs, and plans to drive sales growth.
  • Create annual performance goals, objectives, and sales action plans.
  • Prepare periodic sales funnel reports, weekly sales reports, and other related documentation.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external customers via on-site visits, phone, and email, including troubleshooting, product selection, and technical documentation.
  • Build and maintain relationships with sales teams and customers to understand sales potential.
  • Identify customer needs through visits, calls, and research (e.g., internet).
  • Collaborate with sales teams to establish joint strategies and activities.
  • Provide expert knowledge to Inside Sales to facilitate quoting, order entry, and order expediting.
  • Create and deliver technical and commercial training for internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrate products to customers and follow up on business leads assigned by management, marketing, technical departments, or supplier partners.
  • Acquire, use, and continuously develop personal technical knowledge.
  • Prepare and present quotations, proposals, or estimates covering prices, scope of work, terms, and delivery.
  • Work with prospective customers to move projects through the sales cycle to completion.
  • Prepare for sales calls and customer events.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing to manage inventory of high-tech products and address potential obsolescence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience in the electrical distribution industry or a related field.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • High School diploma or GED (required).
  • 4-year/Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).

Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, specifically with Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong presentation skills to effectively communicate with small groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including tact, courtesy, and a positive attitude toward customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to develop and deliver specialized instruction for high-tech equipment in the assigned area of responsibility.
