About the role

We have an immediate opening for an Industrial Automation Engineer who will design, customize, test, troubleshoot, and optimize current and future processes—from concept through installation. Projects span manufacturing equipment, control rooms, robotics, safety sensors, vision systems, and more. You will work hands-on with the Impact Guard team, often independently.

Responsibilities

  • Perform PLC and HMI programming with Siemens and Ignition software; commission, test, and troubleshoot machines, production lines, and conveyor systems.
  • Integrate instrumentation such as pressure sensors, load cells, and flow meters.
  • Work safely around 24 VDC, 120 VAC, 480 VAC, single-phase, and three-phase systems.
  • Create and interpret electrical drawings in AutoCAD; document custom machines, systems, and products.
  • Configure VFDs, servo drives, machine-vision systems, robot controllers, and field I/O racks.
  • Use OEM manuals for installation, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop OEM manuals, SOPs, and other documentation.
  • Train operators and provide technical instruction.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and resolve issues.
  • Troubleshoot problems to root cause and implement solutions.
  • Ensure installed products meet quality and scope expectations; follow quality-control checklists.
  • Communicate design changes to the team.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant programming work experience.
  • Proficiency with Siemens PLC and HMI software (Ignition experience preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Electrical aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on work.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical drawings and manuals.
  • Ability to understand and interpret scope of work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong math skills: calculations, graphing, and scaling.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and stretch current abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant programming certifications or coursework.
  • Experience with Python or other programming languages.
  • Project-management experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Wearing protective gear.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending, climbing, and inspecting equipment and materials.
