Indonesian Toponymist/ Geospatial Linguist - TS/SCI Required

About the role

The Toponymist (Geospatial Linguist) supports a customer site in St Louis, MO. Active TS/SCI clearance is required, with a willingness to obtain a POLY level clearance.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and provide conflated information associated with Foundation feature data listed within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB).
• Respond to questions concerning the proper and correct application of names, various romanization systems, and the treatment of descriptive information on products using the Geographic Names Processing System (GNPS), charts, imagery, and geospatial tools.
• Enter and maintain data to update the GNDB, including creating shapefiles, geo-databases, and data retrieval/storage.
• Research, order, scan, and geo-reference hydrographic and topographic sources, supporting textual sources and commercial imagery to enhance toponymic and geographic accuracy.
• Interpret and apply policies governing the treatment of names as well as general guidelines from the BGN, the Department of State (DoS), North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NA TO), and other related organizations.
• Create and maintain maps and files for work, ensuring accuracy and reliability of names information for all types of products.
• Provide foreign translation as necessary to support the Office of Geography and Mission.
• Ensure a current and accurate ITAR exemption is in effect for all requested support involving partner interaction.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with a willingness to obtain a POLY level clearance.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience, including a combination of education and experience.
• ILR Skill Level certification for reading in the language, demonstrating intermediate experience with GIS software, and advanced understanding of Geographic Names collection methodologies.
• Experience operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, as well as excellent communication skills.
• Proficiency in advanced Python Scripting and regional geographic proficiency in the analyst's AOR at the SME level.
