About the role

The Individual Giving Officer is responsible for advancing relationships and raising funds from individuals, families, and foundations within an assigned territory. This role manages a portfolio of donors and prospects capable of making gifts of $10,000 or more, with a focus on those capable of $100,000+ gifts. Responsibilities include identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts, planned giving, and annual fund donors. The position reports to an Area Director and requires maintaining residence within the assigned area (Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska) and the continental United States.

Responsibilities

  • Drive all individual giving fundraising streams (e.g., major giving, annual fund, planned giving) and achieve individual giving goals in the assigned area.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit new donor prospects capable of making major gifts of $10,000 or more.
  • Manage a pipeline of 75-100 major gift prospects using a data-driven approach to moves management.
  • Engage donors in discussions about philanthropic goals and legacy/estate planning.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and strategies in the organization’s CRM.
  • Collaborate with other teams to meet the nationwide annual fundraising goal of $116 million in revenue.
  • Translate complex medical and scientific updates into accessible language for donors and stakeholders.
  • Represent the CF Foundation at speaking engagements and provide updates on cystic fibrosis research and Foundation programs.
  • Direct, design, and execute department initiatives such as national webinars, workshops, and training.
  • Coach and train chapter staff on individual giving strategies.
  • Meet regularly with other Individual Giving Officers and national leads to enable collaboration and alignment of strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in major gift fundraising, with proven success securing gifts of $100,000+.
  • Strong knowledge of major giving, donor engagement, and stewardship.
  • Skilled in cultivating donor relationships aligned with organizational goals and donor interests.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft compelling proposals and convey impact through storytelling.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills across internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with donor databases (ClearView, Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and discretion.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise, dust, or temperature.
  • Heavy travel required.
  • No heavy lifting required.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $126,200 to $157,600, varying based on geographic location and experience.
