Independent Clinician, Behavioral Health (Emergency Department)

About the role

This is a casual/contingent position with no set hours; you will pick up open shifts to cover staff time off. Work may be assigned at any of the four major Central Ohio Hospitals (Riverside, Grant, Doctors, Dublin) or on the Virtual Health team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient, family, and significant-other interviews, chart reviews, and professional collaboration to gather and interpret biopsychosocial functioning information.
  • Complete assessments covering: risk of harm to self or others, developmental and age-specific needs, self-care ability, dependent-care ability, basic custodial and financial needs, capacity for meaningful social and emotional relationships, and ability to comprehend and comply with treatment recommendations.
  • Develop preliminary diagnostic formulations.
  • Create and implement intervention plans based on assessments, providing crisis intervention, supportive counseling, educational sessions, and individual, couples, family, or group therapies to resolve problem areas.
  • Perform treatment planning, continuum of care planning, and discharge planning.
  • Maintain current knowledge of hospital and community services to support patient psychosocial functioning; facilitate successful linkages between services and patients.
  • Thoroughly document assessments and interventions in patient medical records and information systems, complying with department standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency in job duties.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Nursing, Counseling, or a related field (required).
  • Licensure to practice independently in the State of Ohio (e.g., LISW, LPCC).
  • Knowledge of clinical psychopathology, psychiatric diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Understanding of bio-psychosocial development for the age groups served.
  • Experience working with acutely-ill psychiatric patients (required).

Schedule

Day shifts; scheduled weekly hours as needed.
