Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as lead worker over a unit of a single program area, performing intake, processing, review, and redetermination; at least 25 % of time in lead‑worker capacity.
• Perform eligibility determination functions comparable to an Income Maintenance Caseworker III.
• Execute a wide range of eligibility determination/redetermination tasks requiring in‑depth knowledge of all income‑maintenance programs and functional processes.
• Resolve client appeals of actions taken by income maintenance caseworkers.
• Analyze program‑wide problem areas, recommend corrective action, and provide staff re‑training or targeted training.
• Work independently on complex tasks within Medicaid programs, including multiple functions in long‑term care programs.
• Assume responsibility for resolving complex problems with significant impact on clients or the agency.
• Report to a higher‑level supervisor with minimal review of work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Considerable knowledge of NC FAST and Social Service programs.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Ability to research, analyze, and interpret automated system problems.
• Effective communication with clients, applicants, the public, and public officials to obtain data and explain rules and procedures.
• Capability to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker, or a degree from an accredited college or university.
• Or an associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, human services, secretarial science, or a closely related field plus at least two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public‑contact experience involving negotiating, interviewing, obtaining, analyzing, and/or evaluating data.
• Or a high school diploma plus at least five years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public‑contact experience involving negotiating, interviewing, obtaining, analyzing, and/or evaluating data.
