About the role

The University of Redlands seeks an Inclusion and Community Coordinator to lead the Office of Inclusion and Community (OIC) in advancing a community culture of belonging, education, and dialogue across difference. The Coordinator will support campuswide initiatives and programs serving and preparing first-generation, high-need, and underrepresented student populations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of inclusive programming to advance community belonging, education, training, celebration, and dialogue across difference, and constructive student engagement.
  • Expand utilization and welcoming atmosphere of OIC Centers (Multicultural Center, The Bridge, Pride Center, and Center for Gender Justice).
  • Establish inclusive OIC Centers calendar of cultural, identity, and heritage celebrations, and support coordination of OIC-led or supported signature events and programs.
  • Partner with student diversity-led clubs and organizations, Student Campus Life, all Student Affairs departments, and campus partners to establish one student-centered programming and educational opportunities (e.g., workshops) calendar, integrating OIC Center signature events and programs, track, and assess student engagement.
  • Aid in coordinating the pre-orientation Summer Bridge program(s) to assist with transition to college.
  • Serve as a resource for students, faculty, and staff on issues related to belonging, community, and identity.
  • Partnership with Residence Life and Housing in supporting a Bridge/Step living learning community.
  • Regularly attend the Student Diversity-Led club and organization meetings, providing advising, mentorship, leadership development, training, programming support, and celebrating student community impact.
  • Partner with Student Success Center on initiatives and programs (e.g., study hall jam, embedded tutoring in Multicultural Center) and connection pathways to other resources.
  • Assist with coordinating I'm Going to College (IGTC) which is a group tour designed to introduce K-8 students to the benefits of a college education.
  • Assist with coordinating affinity group graduation recognition ceremonies.
  • Establish partnerships and programming to encourage academic success, career preparedness, and wellbeing.
  • Manage student records consistent with the Family Rights and Privacy Act and serve as a Responsible Employee.
  • Maintain a presence and serve as a resource to students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide supervision for undergraduate student employees, undergraduate student leaders, volunteers, and formulate individual performance and professional development goals aligned with the department’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Support division of Student Affairs and/or institutional initiatives, committees, and/or signature events/programs as needed (e.g., New Student Orientation, Admitted Students Day, Bulldog Beginnings, LiveWell Bulldogs Fair).
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible technical, analytical, or administrative experience.
  • Preferred: Experience or knowledge of working with grant projects, programs, or initiatives, or other programs for historically underserved and underrepresented students or communities.
  • Fluency (read, write, and communicate orally in English with high levels of/cross-cultural competency).
  • Experience working with underserved student populations.
  • Experience managing student employees or volunteers.
  • Experience working with students.

  • Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and promoting social justice on campus and beyond.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students coming to the university, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.
  • Understanding of best practices and strategies for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion on college campuses, preferably at a Minority Serving or specifically a Hispanic Serving Institution.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  • Communicate effectively and follow instructions, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to campus climate and diversity initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage high volume of electronic communication, prepare reports and spreadsheets, and create presentations.
  • Ability to recommend appropriate courses of action within established guidelines.
  • Ability to foster strong, positive relationships and align both internal and external resources to achieve university objectives.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and work with confidentiality.

Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification.
