In-Shop Diesel Technician
We are looking for a talented In-Shop Diesel Technician to join our team specializing in engine repairs for our Distribution Business in Jackson, MS. $5,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates.
About the role
In this role, you will make an impact by completing troubleshooting, repairs, and rebuilds on engine products and other customer equipment in a service shop. You will perform preventative maintenance based on assessment of engines, including utilizing computers and software for diagnostic work. The role involves applying documented procedures and policies to complete complex repairs, identifying and preparing required parts and tools, and completing required documentation such as work orders, time sheets, warranty claims, and quality documents.
Responsibilities
- Apply documented procedures and policies to complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools.
- Disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble engines and/or engine components.
- Perform preventative maintenance based on assessment of engines.
- Assist more experienced technicians with diagnostics and development of repair plans for engines in the workshop.
- Complete required documentation, such as work completed documents, time sheets, warranty claims, and quality documents via handwritten forms or business system input screens.
- Complete training in line with skill and business requirements.
- Maintain work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation.
- Adhere to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures, and legislation; report any issues or incidents to your supervisor.

- Engine Systems Interactions – Interpret and analyze interactions of internal and external electrical and mechanical systems (e.g., exhaust, heating, cooling, fuel systems, driveline, aftertreatment, controls, sensors) using tools and service publications to diagnose and repair efficiently.
- Product Repair and Maintenance – Repair and maintain mechanical/electrical products following guidelines, using required tools to ensure quality; disassemble and assemble engines or power generators; inspect and replace parts following re-use guidelines to minimize customer cost; perform progressive damage checks to restore to pre-failure condition.
- Service Documentation – Create and verify customer, equipment, and technical information; capture specific data using required service tools; document information in the service management system.
- Technical Escalation – Obtain product technical issue information and utilize available resources; elevate issues to higher levels of expertise; capture troubleshooting steps in the appropriate database for seamless transitions and accurate responses.

Requirements
- Apprentice-trained Engine Technician (preferred) or vocational diploma from a relevant technical institution.
- Locally valid driving permit (preferred).
- Advanced-level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products.
- Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred).
- CDL preferred; may be required to obtain upon hire (Federal law requires CDL holders to be 21 years of age or older).
- Must be 18 years old with 2 years of driving experience.
- This role requires a 5-year motor vehicle report, free from major violations.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
- Broad range of mechanical knowledge and capability to perform complex diagnostics and repairs on a variety of equipment.
