In SHAPE Health Mentor

About the role

The In SHAPE Health Mentor assists In SHAPE members in developing and implementing their personal wellness programs. They provide support and education on physical fitness, nutrition, and wellness, encourage healthy behaviors, and assist in training of volunteer mentors.

Responsibilities

• Supports In SHAPE members in achieving their health goals through community-based services.
• Manages a caseload of clients to design and support individual SHAPE plans.
• Collaborates with clients, program staff, and the In SHAPE Coordinator to tailor health plans.
• Trains fitness instructors and mentors to enhance group activity instruction and member engagement.
• Facilitates peer relationships and supports member progress towards wellness goals.
• Assists in the development of wellness support systems beyond the In SHAPE program.
• Trains new mentors, interns, and volunteer mentors to ensure continuity and growth in the program.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Health Science, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Psychology, Education, or related field.
• Personal Trainer Certification.
• Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Organizational skills and experience collaborating with individuals to achieve goals or behavior change.
• A valid driver's license and a "clean" driving record.
• CPR/First Aid Training is recommended.

• Knowledge of physical fitness, nutrition, and wellness principles.
• Ability to work independently and lead group activities.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
