About the role
RS&H is seeking a senior-level In-Service Bridge Inspector to join our Transportation team in Novi, Michigan. This role offers strong growth potential and could lead to Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager positions. The role involves both field and office work, focusing on bridge and culvert inspections, traffic control coordination, documentation, and report preparation.
Responsibilities
- Plan and complete bridge, culvert, and ancillary structure inspections in accordance with established work plans and schedules.
- Perform complex field inspections to identify existing structural conditions, deterioration, and deficiencies.
- Guide and support team members in documenting field conditions through detailed notes, measurements, and photographs.
- Lead the timely and accurate completion of inspection deliverables, including bridge inspection reports and bridge scoping reports, in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Cook up and execute inspections while coordinating traffic control, access methods, and equipment rentals.
- Ensure all inspection activities are conducted in a safe manner and in compliance with safety standards.
- Remain current on federal and state requirements to maintain qualification as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, including refresher training and field proficiency requirements.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior inspection staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant bridge inspection experience.
- Meet FHWA Bridge Inspection Team Leader qualification requirements.
- Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with team members and clients.
- Valid driver’s license, insurable, and able to safely operate a vehicle on highways and at job sites.
