About the role
Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit dedicated to providing hands-on computer science and AI education to Bay Area youth. Our programs include semester- and year-long introductory coding courses, self-paced learning, workshops, and more.
Responsibilities
- Create an inclusive and community-based classroom culture surrounding the Mission Bit core values of social justice, community, accountability, smart risks, and love
- Prepare and facilitate four lessons per week to a diverse group of learners, adjusting lessons to meet students' learning needs
- Ensure students develop sufficient understanding to build their final project at the end of the semester
- Foster individual and meaningful relationships with students
- Grade student assessments
- Communicate course progress to students and their families
- Communicate student progress and success to Program Staff and Innovative Learning Manager
- Suggest and implement new ideas to improve Mission Bit and our curriculum
Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year of teaching high school-age students in a formal education setting (STEM classroom experience preferred)
- An Associate's degree or higher in Education, Computer Science, or related fields. May be substituted with 2 years of formal classroom experience
- Demonstrated competence in Web Design (HTML/CSS) and Python
- Values aligned with Mission Bit and a passion for equity in STEMAre comfortable in public speaking situations and have strong communication skills
- Experience working with a diverse group of individuals
- Self-starting with the ability to work autonomously
