In-House Counsel

This role is hybrid in any of our offices: Irvine, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Oakland, CA; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Chicago, IL; or Washington, D.C.

About the role

The In-House Counsel will support the firm’s core practice of architecture, as well as various corporate legal needs such as professional service contracts, insurance, development of corporate policies, business registration, and compliance. A tight collaborative relationship with all technical and support teams and a solid grasp of the AEC industry will be key to success. The ideal candidate will build relationships across the organization, adjust to the firm’s evolving needs, and demonstrate trust, influence, and strong project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate design service contracts for residential, senior living, hospitality, retail, and mixed-use projects across the U.S. and internationally
• Negotiate and draft sub-consultant contracts, vendor service contracts, settlement agreements, nondisclosure agreements, and various legal correspondence
• Manage insurance policies and liaison with the firm’s insurance brokers
• Assist with the management and coordination of special projects requiring legal expertise
• Liaison with outside counsel on litigation matters
• Negotiate and settle disputes with clients and sub-consultants
• Assist in evaluating current and prospective policies and procedures, and implement corporate policies
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously with a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving
• Work effectively both independently and collaboratively with designers and support departments
• Communicate legal concepts and concerns clearly to architects and other non-attorneys

Requirements

• J.D. with admission to at least one state bar
• Minimum of 3 years of legal experience
• Experience or knowledge of construction and design (a plus)
• Strong time management and workflow efficiency skills
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience in architecture, engineering, or homebuilding fields (preferred)

Pay

The expected pay range for this role is $140,000 – $170,000 per year.
