Position Summary
Direct Support Professionals provide daily care and support to individuals living in their homes or home-like settings. Staff assists with personal care, daily living skills, health monitoring, and community participation while promoting independence, dignity, and respect.
Key Responsibilities
- Clock in and out on time using the company timekeeping system
- Accurately document services provided during each shift
- Report any changes in an individual's health, behavior, or environment to management promptly
- Follow all agency policies, procedures, and state regulations
Personal Care & Health Support
- Absorb personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and feeding
- Support mobility and ambulation as needed
- Assist with toileting, including the use of bedpans, urinals, or commode chairs when necessary
- Maintain health and wellness and report concerns
- Remind or assist with medication self-administration after proper training
Promoting Independence
- Encourage individuals to build and maintain daily living skills
- Support self-help activities and independence whenever possible
- Foster positive and respectful relationships between housemates
Home Support
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable home environment
- Perform light housekeeping duties, including laundry, bed making, and cleaning
- Aid with meal planning, grocery shopping, food preparation, and clean-up
Community Engagement
- Accompany individuals to medical appointments and community activities
- Transport individuals when required
- Support participation in community events and daily activities
Safety & Well-Being
- Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals at all times
- Maintain a respectful, supportive, and positive environment
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred or required, depending on program)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Valid driver's license (for positions requiring transportation)
- Ability to work in group home or home-like settings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to interact professionally with individuals served, coworkers, families, and outside professionals
- Ability to perform physical job duties, including bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing or walking for extended periods
Required Training & Certifications
- Medication Administration
- CPR / First Aid
- Prevention and Support / Behavioral Training
- Additional training as required by Arizona state regulations or agency policy
