About the role
The MEMS Group located in Wilmington, MA is seeking an IMU Design Evaluation Engineer to serve as a product development owner and characterization expert for MEMS-based inertial measurement units. This role combines end-to-end IMU ownership with hands-on evaluation, enabling rapid iteration between design, validation, and productization.
Responsibilities
- Own IMU development from concept through release.
- Define and execute characterization strategies to evaluate IMU performance across environmental and dynamic conditions.
- Design and develop test setups (temperature, vibration, shock).
- Analyze data to understand performance drivers, validate models, and identify root causes of errors.
- Serve as a technical interface to customers, including supporting escalations and communicating findings.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure product performance and readiness.
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- ~5+ years of experience in IMU or MEMS inertial sensor development.
- Experience owning or driving sensor/IMU development and/or sustaining engineering.
- Strong understanding of inertial sensor performance (e.g., bias, noise, stability).
- Hands-on experience with test equipment such as vibration systems, shock testers, rate tables, centrifuges, thermal chambers, and similar.
- Experience with test automation and instrumentation interfaces.
- Proficiency in data analysis and programming tools (MATLAB, Python, LabView, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with DOE methods, statistical analysis, and reliability testing.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.

Pay
The expected wage range for a new hire into this position is $131,285 to $190,108. Actual wage offered may vary depending on work location, experience, education, training, external market data, internal pay equity, or other bona fide factors.
