About the role
The Import Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing the importation of goods into the company. This role plays a critical part in ensuring efficient import processes, regulatory compliance, and timely delivery of goods.
Responsibilities
- Develop import strategies and plans in coordination with other departments.
- Determine the most cost-effective and efficient methods for importing goods.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant customs, import, and trade regulations.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in import regulations and communicate these changes to the team.
- Manage relationships with suppliers, vendors, and customs authorities.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers to optimize import operations.
- Oversee the preparation and verification of import documentation, including customs paperwork.
- Ensure the accurate classification, valuation, and country of origin determination for imported goods.
- Cook up customs clearance processes, including managing customs brokers.
- Resolve customs issues and delays promptly and efficiently.
- Maintain inventory levels to prevent overstock or stockouts.
- Implement inventory strategies to optimize storage and distribution.
- Manage import-related costs and expenses, including customs duties and taxes.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities in the import process.
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly assess and report on the performance of import operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in import management, customs compliance, or related roles.
- Experience in managing import operations in the transportation and logistics industry.
Qualifications
- Profound knowledge of customs regulations, import procedures, and trade compliance.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using logistics and inventory management software.
- Familiarity with trade agreements and customs automation systems.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of international trade agreements.
- Ability to adapt to new technology platforms used in import management and logistics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in customs compliance or supply chain management.
- Experience with global import operations.
Language skills
- Fluent in English (oral and written); additional languages are a plus
Computer Literacy
- Proficiency in using logistics and inventory management software.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Pay
The expected base pay range is $86,688.00 – $108,360.00 . Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
