Job Description

The Impact Manager will perform the following roles and responsibilities as described below:

  • Lead, manage, and coach a team of 18-25-year-olds completing a year of AmeriCorps service to achieve service impact with students and reach their leadership development potential.
  • Monitor performance through consistent check-ins, clear expectations, and timely feedback to address challenges, balancing accountability with the developmental needs of early-career adults.
  • Serve as an effective talent developer and mentor student success coaches through career exploration and decision-making, helping them clarify their post-service goals and build skills and networks to pursue their next step.
  • Ensure student success coaches successfully meet AmeriCorps service requirements, including service hours, documentation, and adherence to prohibited activities and program policies.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive team culture that supports collaboration and belonging.

Responsibilities

  • Team Management
    • Lead, manage, and coach a team of 18-25-year-olds completing a year of AmeriCorps service to achieve service impact with students and reach their leadership development potential.
    • Monitor performance through consistent check-ins, clear expectations, and timely feedback to address challenges, balancing accountability with the developmental needs of early-career adults.
    • Serve as an effective talent developer and mentor student success coaches through career exploration and decision-making, helping them clarify their post-service goals and build skills and networks to pursue their next step.
    • Ensure student success coaches successfully meet AmeriCorps service requirements, including service hours, documentation, and adherence to prohibited activities and program policies.

  • Service Delivery & Impact
    • Coach team members to deliver differentiated tutoring and coaching for students in English-Language Arts, math, and interpersonal skills development.
    • Use and interpret student- and program-level data to identify trends, guide coaching priorities, and inform decisions with school partners.
    • Avoid any activity that would jeopardize the safety or welfare of students or others.
    • Avoid any activity that would violate the law or City Year’s Code of Conduct.
    • Avoid any activity that would compromise the integrity of the AmeriCorps program.
    • Avoid any activity that would undermine the effectiveness of the service delivery model.
    • Avoid any activity that would harm the reputation of City Year or the AmeriCorps program.
    • Avoid any activity that would compromise the safety or welfare of students or others.

  • School Partnership Management
    • Serve as the primary liaison between City Year and the school, building strong relationships with principals, teachers, and staff to align service with school priorities and follow through on shared decisions.
    • Participate in regular meetings with school leadership and partners to discuss progress, needs, and conditions for success.
  • Collaboration & Learning
    • Collaborate effectively with teammates to achieve sitewide goals and foster an inclusive environment.
    • Contribute to corps volunteer learning by leading or cofacilitating training sessions during start-of-year onboarding and ongoing learning & development days.
    • Reinforce centralized training through on-the-job coaching, reflection, and team learning activities.
    • Role model a growth mindset and commitment to City Year’s culture and values as a leader within a youth-serving organization.
  • Physical Requirements
    • Be physically present on your assigned school campus(es) during designated work hours.
    • Move about the school campus as needed throughout the workday.
    • Lift and carry instructional materials, books, and supplies up to ~20 pounds.
    • Have sufficient vision to read printed materials, a computer screen, and observe student activities.
    • Have sufficient hearing to understand conversations in person or over the phone.
    • Speak clearly and be understood by students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Operate a computer and other instructional technology.
    • Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including during inclement weather.
  • Working Conditions
    • Operates in a school campus majority of the fiscal year using standard office equipment.
    • Frequent travel required between school campuses, must have access to reliable means of personal transportation.
    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, youth-centered school environment, with a noise level that can range from moderate to high.
    • Weekly travel required to downtown City Year Detroit office and periodic travel to other locations across Metro Detroit.
    • Typical schedule: 40 hours per week with occasional extended hours as needed.
    • Typical schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00 – 5:00 pm or 8:15 am – 4:15 pm.
    • Must have reliable internet access when remote or flexible work arrangements are approved.

    Compensation

    $55,000 - $60,000.00 Annually

    Commensurate with Experience.

    Full-time employees will be eligible for all benefits including vacation, sick days and organization holidays.
