About the role

Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities and assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers.
• Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities.
• Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.
• Complete specific MCPS‑provided courses in behavioral management (including nonviolent crisis interventions) when employed in special education schools or discrete special education service models.
• Support behavioral interventions as required.
• Meet physical demands as required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education.
• Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
• Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience at the
