About the role
We are seeking a motivated Team Leader to lead daily material handling operations while actively supporting production activities alongside the team. This role is ideal for hands-on leaders with proven forklift experience who thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy mentoring others, and are passionate about driving safety, quality, and team performance.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and support a team of material handlers and general laborers
- Assign daily tasks and monitor workflow to ensure customer schedules and production goals are achieved
- Train new employees and provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and performance feedback
- Utilize a "Go & See" approach and tools such as LPA (Layered Process Audits) to drive accountability and continuous improvement
- Serve as the primary liaison between team members and management
- Hands-On Operations
- Actively participate in daily operations, including outbound loading, unloading, staging, storage, and shipping activities
- Ensure parts and materials are delivered accurately and on time to meet customer requirements
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and escalate maintenance concerns as needed
- Complete daily QPV (Quality Prevention & Verification) checklists
- Forklift Operations (Required)
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment throughout the facility
- Maintain forklift certification and model safe operating practices at all times
- Train and mentor employees on proper forklift operation and material handling procedures
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and report maintenance needs promptly
- Oversee inventory flow and material movement to prevent production disruptions or shipping delays
- Safety, Quality & Performance
- Enforce workplace safety policies and procedures while promoting a strong safety culture
- Conduct safety checks and ensure compliance with material handling standards
- Monitor team performance, provide coaching, and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, material flow, efficiency, and waste reduction
- Support Lean Manufacturing and workplace organization initiatives, including 5S
Requirements
- Previous forklift experience is required and must be demonstrated
- Experience leading, coaching, or directing teams in a manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, or material handling environment
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence
- Ability to balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on operational work
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s licence
- Criminal background check, drug screen, and post-offer pre-employment physical
- Grade 12 education; college or university education or equivalent experience
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills
- Valid forklift license
