About the role

Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

Responsibilities

• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement.
• Complete specific MCPS‑provided courses (including behavioral management and nonviolent crisis intervention) required for teachers in special education schools or discrete special education service models.
• Support behavioral interventions as required for identified schools and programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education.
• Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
• Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level (elementary or secondary
