About the role

Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry and general worker level in the building service staff positions at Springbrook High School (Silver Spring). Employees receive on‑the‑job training in the application of simple manual skill and use of cleaning and grounds tools and equipment, and supplies to clean interior of buildings and maintain grounds. The work is repetitive, requires sustained physical effort, and involves heavy lifting/moving of furniture and equipment with some exposure to accident and injury hazards and disagreeable elements. Employees are considered emergency personnel and must report to buildings during inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform building cleaning and facilities/grounds maintenance.
• Clean interior of buildings and maintain grounds.
• Move/lift furniture and equipment (minimum 50 lbs).
• Report to work during inclement weather as emergency personnel.
• May be required to report to other locations to assist in emergency situations.
• Work frequent overtime or night shifts as needed.
• Maintain a current working telephone number and update supervisor as needed.
• Wear the provided uniform and proper attire.

Requirements

• Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to lift and move heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs) and perform manual labor.
• Ability to work as emergency personnel, reporting during inclement weather and possibly to other locations.
• Willingness to work frequent overtime or night shifts.
• Must provide a current working telephone number to supervisor and keep it updated.
• Must wear the provided uniform and proper attire.

Qualifications

• Completion of the ninth grade required.
• High School or GED diploma preferred.
