Under general supervision, performs building cleaning, facilities, and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry and general worker level in the building service staff positions. Employees receive on-the-job training in the application of simple manual skills and use of cleaning and grounds tools, equipment, and supplies to clean the interior of buildings and maintain grounds.
Responsibilities
- Perform repetitive cleaning tasks requiring sustained physical effort.
- Move or lift furniture and equipment, including heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.).
- Maintain building interiors and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Monitor building spaces and grounds for safety and security.
- Follow emergency facility response procedures.
- Comprehend and follow instructions.
- Communicate effectively with customers.
- Adhere to the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Requirements
- Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to perform manual labor.
- Considered emergency personnel; required to report to buildings during inclement weather or other emergency situations.
- May be required to work frequent overtime or night shifts.
- Must provide and maintain a current working telephone number for emergency contact.
- Must wear provided uniforms and proper attire.
Qualifications
- Completion of the ninth grade required; high school or GED diploma preferred.
- Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds.
- Some knowledge of methods, materials, and practices of building and grounds work.
- Ability to learn proper operation and maintenance of custodial and grounds care equipment.
- Ability to learn proper use of approved cleaning supplies and chemicals.
- Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
Pay
The wage range for this position is between $20.65 and $26.16 per hour, based on years of service.
Schedule
- Tour of Duty: 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
- Part-time, 12 working months per year.
- Day shift.
