About the role

Performs building cleaning, facilities, and grounds maintenance work in schools and administrative buildings. This is the entry-level position in the building service staff, involving on-the-job training in cleaning and grounds tools, equipment, and supplies. Work is repetitive, requires sustained physical effort, and may involve moving or lifting heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.) with exposure to accident hazards and disagreeable elements.

Employees in this classification are considered emergency personnel and must report to buildings during inclement weather or other emergency situations. Frequent overtime or night work may be required. Uniforms are provided and must be worn.

Responsibilities

  • Clean interior of buildings using appropriate tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain grounds and outdoor facilities.
  • Move and lift furniture and equipment, with some heavy lifting (minimum 50 lbs.).
  • Monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Follow emergency facility response procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and follow instructions.
  • Adhere to the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Requirements

  • Completion of the ninth grade required; high school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in general cleaning of buildings and grounds.
  • Sufficient physical strength and freedom from disabling defects to perform manual labor.
  • Must provide and maintain a current working telephone number for emergency contact.
  • Ability to learn proper operation and maintenance of custodial and grounds care equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures.

Skills

  • Some knowledge of methods, materials, and practices of building and grounds work.
  • Ability to learn the proper use of approved cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers.

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $20.65 and $26.16 per hour, based on years of service.

Schedule

  • Part-time, 12 working months per year.
  • Day shift.
