About the Role

Performs complex tasks associated with the operation of radiographic equipment to produce high-quality X-ray images. The Imaging Technician II is responsible for producing routine and difficult imaging procedures and support activities while maintaining safe radiation practices. Assists in other areas of Imaging Services at Cumberland Medical Center, an acute care hospital offering comprehensive care including cardiology, orthopedics, maternity, cancer treatment, and wound care.

Responsibilities

  • Apply ALARA principles to maintain radiation safety standards, minimizing exposure through protective devices, shields, dose reduction, and monitors.
  • Determine appropriate exposure factors for diagnostic imaging procedures.
  • Collaborate with patients to document clinical history and ensure information is available for licensed independent practitioners.
  • Receive, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient’s medical record while adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Perform routine and difficult diagnostic imaging procedures with technical expertise in equipment and protocols.
  • Assist licensed independent practitioners with interventional procedures, including time-outs and verifying informed consents.
  • Perform venipuncture, start and maintain intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Transport patients and assist in other areas of imaging as needed.
  • Practice aseptic technique and apply universal precautions and infection prevention protocols.
  • Proactively assist patients, families, practitioners, and visitors, ensuring patient safety during all aspects of procedures (e.g., double IDs, falls prevention, hand washing).
  • Perform clerical duties, operate radiology information systems, and manage PACS proficiently.
  • Maintain equipment, supply levels, and cleanliness of the imaging area.
  • Assist in training, orienting, and educating staff, students, and healthcare providers on exam procedures.
  • Support Senior Technologist/Supervisor/Manager with reports, statistics, and inventory control.
  • Review and evaluate completed tests for quality, completeness, and accuracy of ordered tests.
  • Demonstrate competency in addressing age-specific patient needs and critical skills.
  • Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and perform BLS as needed.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards; complete annual education assignments.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and work toward achieving goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed an educational program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT.
  • Must be proficient in all fluoroscopy and specialized exams, including surgery, within 6 months of hire.
  • Must hold and maintain ARRT (R) certification.
  • Must maintain state licensure in accordance with Tennessee guidelines.

Schedule

Full-time, 72 hours per pay period, day shift.
