About the Role
Under general supervision, performs patient preparations and screening processes, as well as transporting patients for the department.
Responsibilities
- Provides health care services in own job category to all age groups.
- Demonstrates competence in interpersonal relationships with all age groups.
- Utilizes Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS), and PACS.
- Maintains a safe working environment by ensuring gurneys are locked except when transporting, side rails are up as indicated, and the unit is free of hazards/clutter.
- Adheres to infection prevention guidelines, including proper hand washing, foam use, isolation policy, and disposal of infectious waste.
- Speaks up when others are taking safety risks and follows rules for personal protection and environmental safety.
- Understands role in maintaining medication security to authorized personnel only.
- Transports and moves patients using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions.
- Demonstrates knowledge and practice of safe patient handling devices.
- Follows Universal Protocol by using two patient identifiers prior to working with a patient and uses SBAR for hand-off communication.
- Assists outpatients from reception to the department, ascertains needs, and ensures patient comfort and confidentiality.
- Provides coverage for clerical staff when needed.
- Understands and carries out role in department and organizational emergency and disaster plans.
- Cleans and maintains all wheelchairs and gurneys.
- Meets safety needs of patients and uses equipment safely (e.g., O2, Hoyer lift, electric beds).
- Assists with answering telephones, scheduling appointments, confirming appointments, and answering questions.
- Prepares patient paperwork for examinations.
- Orders and stocks department supplies.
- Assists technologists in cleaning and preparing exam rooms, restocking linen, and patient care supplies.
- Answers telephones courteously within three rings, identifying self and department, routing calls, and taking accurate messages.
- Follows cleaning and high-level disinfection policies for semi-critical devices.
- Transports specimens to the laboratory.
- Utilizes MRI safety at all times, including watching the MRI safety video before working in MRI.
- Provides supportive care during patient scans (e.g., hand-holding, verbal conversation, presence).
- Attends to difficult or claustrophobic patients.
- Screens visitors, hospital employees, and anyone entering the 5 Gauss line for ferromagnetic materials, pacemakers, ID badges, tools, etc.
Requirements
- BCLS or ACLS Certification
Pay
$25.00 / hour
