About the role

DCU Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society is seeking a researcher to contribute to projects examining media, democracy, and digital technologies. The role involves conducting research on topics such as disinformation, media pluralism, deliberative democracy, and the impact of digital platforms on public discourse. The researcher will work within a collaborative academic environment, contributing to publications, reports, and policy-oriented outputs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research on media, democracy, and digital technologies
• Contribute to project deliverables including reports, academic publications, and policy briefs
• Engage with stakeholders including policymakers, civil society, and media professionals
• Participate in project meetings, workshops, and dissemination activities
• Contribute to grant writing and future research proposals

Qualifications

• PhD in communication studies, political science, sociology, or a related discipline
• Strong research record with publications in relevant fields
• Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
• Knowledge of media policy, digital platforms, and democratic theory

Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
• Project management and organisational skills
• Familiarity with Irish media landscape and policy context is advantageous
