About the role

In the role of Area Safety Manager, we'll count on you to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in preparing, reviewing, and supporting implementation of site-specific safety plans consistent with HDR’s corporate SH&E program.
  • Assist project managers and field teams with the development and review of Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Support project development teams in reviewing pursuits to identify, plan for, and mitigate SH&E related risk.
  • Understand company requirements for safety program implementation and educate and support local safety coordinators in meeting these requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in SH&E auditing, inspection, and incident investigation protocols in field and office settings.
  • Be capable of facilitating and delivering SH&E training, including but not limited to permit-required confined spaces, control of hazardous energy, fall protection, and first aid/CPR.
  • Display working knowledge of applicable US Federal (i.e., EPA, OSHA, DoD) and/or state rules and regulations, as well as industry consensus standards.
  • Participate as a member of the area leadership team in supporting and implementing culture initiatives.
  • Frequently report leading and lagging safety performance indicator metrics to area operations and business group management.
  • Travel regularly within the assigned geographic area to support projects, field teams, and office locations.

Responsibilities

As an Area Safety Manager, you will:

  • Prepare, review, and support implementation of site-specific safety plans.
  • Assist project managers and field teams with Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Support project development teams in identifying and mitigating SH&E related risks.
  • Educate and support local safety coordinators in meeting company safety program requirements.
  • Conduct SH&E audits, inspections, and investigations.
  • Deliver SH&E training, including confined spaces, fall protection, and first aid/CPR.
  • Understand and apply relevant federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in area leadership team initiatives.
  • Report safety performance metrics.
  • Travel to support projects and field teams.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A minimum of 3 years technical experience or an associate degree in occupational health/safety related field.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of OSHA & ANSI regulatory standards.
  • Ability to instruct and facilitate Safety, Health and Environmental training courses.
  • A team-oriented approach with exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Qualifications

For this role, you should also meet the following qualifications:

  • Previous SH&E work experience in construction, mining/tunneling, water infrastructure, DOT, Oil and Gas, and/or AEC firm.
  • Strong competency in hazard recognition and control for confined spaces, fall protection, excavation and trenching, electrical hazards, and other high-risk tasks and activities.

Skills

  • Proficiency in preparing and reviewing safety plans.
  • Experience in conducting Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Knowledge of SH&E auditing, inspection, and incident investigation protocols.
  • Ability to deliver and facilitate safety training.
  • Understanding of relevant federal and state regulations.
  • Team-oriented communication and facilitation skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to recognize and control hazards in high-risk tasks.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. For Illinois, the range is $73,458 - $104,940.

Schedule

This role is full-time and requires frequent travel within the assigned geographic area.

Business Class

This role falls under the Marketing and Admin business class.
