About the role

Michael Baker International is seeking a Construction Field Support Manager to provide project-level field insight in support of the Independent Engineering Consultant’s (IEC) oversight role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular field visits to gain first-hand visibility into construction progress, work sequencing, site logistics, and interface readiness
  • Validate reported progress, schedules, and milestone commitments through direct comparison with real-time field conditions
  • Proactively identify and escalate emerging issues related to constructability, access, utilities, third-party coordination, and predecessor/successor handoffs
  • Provide IEC Project Managers with clear, concise, and objective field intelligence on site readiness, near-term risks, and execution constraints
  • Evaluate cross-contract and cross-discipline interfaces to anticipate impacts to downstream activities and overall project execution
  • Prepare well-documented, professional field observation narratives suitable for IEC oversight reporting and internal management review
  • Participate in project meetings, coordination sessions, and issue-resolution discussions to support informed, field-driven IEC oversight

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting heavy civil, transit, infrastructure, station, tunnel, utility, or major public works construction projects
  • A solid understanding of construction sequencing, temporary works, access constraints, utility coordination, and interface management
  • Familiarity with large public infrastructure delivery environments, including MTA, NYCT, or similar agencies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with basic construction scheduling software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well-supported observations
  • Ability to engage effectively with field personnel, contractors, and site representatives while delivering professional reporting to project managers and leadership
  • Availability to attend job site meetings and construction activities during weekdays, with occasional night and weekend work as required

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Construction Management or a related discipline
  • NICET Level III, CCM certification, and/or an engineering background
  • Experience with design-build and design-bid-build delivery on transit, transportation, or public-private partnership projects
  • Experience working with owners, PMCs, resident engineering teams, or independent oversight organizations
  • Working knowledge of risk management processes and their impact on construction field activities
  • Experience in public agency project delivery environments and understanding of oversight expectations

Skills

  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, schedules, phasing plans, and work plans
  • Experience identifying and documenting field conditions with potential schedule, cost, or constructability impacts
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to engage effectively with field personnel, contractors, and site representatives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic construction scheduling software

Pay

The approximate compensation range for this position is $156,000 - $197,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.

Schedule

Onsite field work in New York City and its surrounding areas.
