Position Purpose

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country. Works under the direction of the physician and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide nursing care to patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilizes the nursing process to make continuing assessments of the patient’s total health needs; implements nursing interventions based on assessment data; develops and implements the nursing plan of care and evaluates the patient’s response. Strives to provide excellent patient care with compassion, tact, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergency, and ability to work well with team members, receiving and applying feedback from peers and superiors. Assists with orientation of new staff to the unit as requested. All care is provided with kindness and compassion.

Quality of Care and Nursing Process

The nurse provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions. The nurse practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.

Assessment

  • Collects patient health data.
  • Completes a comprehensive patient history and physical in a timely manner and includes biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs.

Nursing Diagnoses / Care Needs

  • Analyzes the assessment data to identify care needs.
  • Formulates a plan to provide appropriate care based on identified patient needs.

Implementation

  • Bases nursing care on identified nursing diagnoses / care needs.
  • Bases nursing care on standards of patient care.

Evaluation

  • Evaluates the patient’s progress towards attainment of desired outcomes.
  • Evaluates the patient’s response to nursing care is evident in the ongoing assessment data.
  • Revises nursing diagnoses / care needs based on reassessment data.

Clinical Lead

  • Coordination of Nursing Personnel.
  • Coordination of Patient Care Quality and Patient Satisfaction.
  • Cordination of Nursing Process and Compliance.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate Degree in Nursing or graduate of a Nursing Diploma program.
  • Certification/Licensure: Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN licenseCurrent BLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Unit Specific Requirements

  • Medical Surgical Units: Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire.
  • Pediatrics: PALS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within 6 months of hire.
  • Intensive Care Unit/ Progressive Care Unit: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hireBasic EKG competency within 30 days of hire.
  • Women’s Services: NRP certification required within 6 months of hire/transferACLS through American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within 3 months of hire/transferS.T.A.B.L.E. required within 6 months of hire/transferAWHONN Fetal Monitor Course:Basic course to be completed within 6 months of hire/transferIntermediate course to be completed within 12 months of hire/transfer.
  • Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certification from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required within 3 months of hireEmergency Severity Index (ESI) training required within 6 months of hireTNCC required within 24 months of hire.
  • Hemodialysis: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red CrossBasic ECG within 3 months of hire.
  • Clinical Decision Unit: Basic EKG competency within 3 months of hire ECHO: ACLS certification from American Heart Association or American Red CrossBasic EKG competency within 30 days of hire.

Minimum Experience

  • Five (5) years of experience for incumbent hired into a full-time shift working a weekend, evening, or night shift.
  • One (1) year of experience in one or more of the following: Endo, Ortho, General, Urology, Robotics, Pulmonary or GYN, if hired into a seasonal position.
