About the role
Operator 1 assists in the production of ice cream, including palletizing ice cream cartons, making mix, operating machinery, and inspecting product to ensure quality.
Responsibilities
- Become proficient in production, packaging, warehousing, and cleaning of the ice cream making process and surrounding area.
- Meet physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 20-35 lbs repetitively and 60 lbs occasionally, standing, and performing repetitive tasks safely.
- Understand and participate in all CIP (Clean-In-Place) and cleaning activities, including hook-ups, foaming, controls, and titrations.
- Keep production lines stocked with materials such as ingredients and packaging.
- Work in environments with fluctuating temperatures, including freezer, refrigerated, hot, and ambient conditions.
- Take guidance from Team Leads, Supervisors, or any other members of the Management Team.
- Work in a small team environment with limited resources at times.
- Become proficient in forklift and pallet jack operations.
- Use basic computer skills to complete job-related tasks, including mandatory safety and food safety training.
- Understand the role of mix reception in the overall ice cream process (proficiency in mix making not required).
- Work harmoniously with others and maintain regular, reliable on-site attendance.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- 1–3 years of related manufacturing experience/training preferred.
- Weekend and off-shift work is required.
- Ability to obtain Forklift Certification and Pallet Jack certifications (required).
- Man Lift certification and Pasteurization license preferred.
Physical requirements
- Sitting, standing, and/or walking for extended periods.
- Lifting up to 60 lbs.
- Vision for machine or computer operations.
- Hearing ability.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Standing (50%), Sitting (25%), Walking (10%), Lifting (10%), Climbing (5%) of shift.
- Repetitive motion of hands and lifting up to 35 pounds.
- Stooping, bending, crouching, and working with chemicals.
Working conditions
- Shared workstations including testing equipment and computer terminals.
- Generally quiet, temperature-controlled, well-lighted laboratory environment.
- Walking on uneven, slippery surfaces and encountering forklift traffic.
- Majority of shift spent standing.
Pay
This is an hourly position with a starting wage of $23.76.
Schedule
12-hour shifts with rotating nights off.
