About the Role
This is a hybrid W2 position based in Riverwoods, IL, focusing on IBM Workload Scheduler administration and related technologies.
Responsibilities
- Manage IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS) architecture, including Dynamic Workload Broker, V10.1+, and high availability of MDMs for Fault Tolerant Agent (FTA) and Dynamic Agent (DA) architectures.
- Demonstrate strong conceptual understanding of Master Domain Manager (MDM), Backup MDM (BMDM), Dynamic Workload Console (DWC), FTA, and DA.
- Use conman CLI to monitor and control the production plan, check job/job stream/resource status.
- Use composer CLI to define, modify, and extract scheduling objects.
- Use planman CLI to control pre-production plan and GUI mirroring.
- Understand the lifecycle of daily production planning, including phases of JNextPlan/FINAL.
- Navigate the DWC web-based GUI to monitor workloads, manage user access security, and define scheduling objects.
- Install IWS components, apply Fix Packs, and Interim Fixes.
- Troubleshoot using logs under TWSDATA/stdlist, adjusting trace levels for netman, batchman, writer, mailman, etc.
- Administer IBM WebSphere Liberty, including reading messages.log, traces.log, and FFDC logs.
- Configure JVM heap sizes, tracing scope, levels, retention, and trace strings.
- Administer Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8+, including bash/shell commands for text processing (grep, awk, sed), file manipulation, and system navigation.
- Manage, start, stop, and troubleshoot SystemD services using systemctl and journalctl for IWS agents and MDM.
- Handle user accounts, groups, service accounts, and Linux file permissions (chmod, chown, ACL on local filesystems and NFS).
- Monitor system performance using top, htop, vmstat, iostat, and sar to troubleshoot bottlenecks.
- Understand Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and filesystem usage.
- Check TCP port availability, firewall rules (firewalld/iptables), and connectivity between MDM and Dynamic Agents using netstat, ss, ping, curl, etc.
- Manage SSL/TLS certificates, private keystores, public trust stores, and work with Certificate Authorities.
- Automate tasks using scripting (Bash Shell, Python).
- Apply networking principles and basic Oracle database administration to troubleshoot with DBAs.
- Write basic SQL to query job metadata and check database connectivity.
- Work with AWS cloud infrastructure and secrets managers (CyberArk PPM, HashiCorp Vault, or similar).
Requirements
- Strong experience with IBM Workload Scheduler (IWS).
- Proficiency in Linux OS administration, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8+.
- Experience with AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, CAPL).
- Experience with IBM WebSphere Liberty.
- Familiarity with z/OS and basic Oracle database administration.
