Join our team as an I&E Technician III in Midland, TX, where you'll play a vital role in maintaining and optimizing automation systems across upstream onshore oil and gas operations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and optimize automation systems in upstream onshore oil and gas operations
- Design, program, and troubleshoot RTUs for well sites
- Work with analog and discrete instrumentation, serial and Ethernet communications protocols
- Program PLCs using function block, ladder logic, and structured text
- Maintain HMI interfaces
- Apply industry standards (API, NEC, NFPA, ISA, IEEE)
- Manage control networks (ControlNet, Ethernet I/P, fiber optics, RF communications)
- Read P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and control narratives
- Troubleshoot control systems
- Utilize CMMS systems such as SAP for maintenance operations
Requirements
- 2-year Instrumentation or Automation Technology degree (GPA 2.5+), or equivalent technical experience with a proven safety record
- 7+ years of experience as an Automation Specialist, including 5+ years in oil field operations
- Proficiency in PLC programming and MS Office suite
- Strong knowledge of Windows OS
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with participation in on-call rotations
- Ability to travel as needed to various field locations from Big Lake to Mentone
- Commitment to working safely around electrical and instrumentation systems
- High School diploma or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Allen-Bradley & Rosemount equipment
- Ability to work in confined spaces, from aerial platforms, and in air-conditioned environments (fit testing required)
- Significant hands-on experience in automation and instrumentation within oil and gas fields, with a focus on safety and reliability
