I&E Technician
Description
The I&E Technician is responsible for repairing and installing instrumentation and electrical equipment. This individual must be able to communicate and adhere to company processes. They are responsible for testing existing equipment, deciding when to repair or replace systems, and reading manufacturer specifications or blueprints to learn how to disassemble and reassemble complex systems. While you may independently check systems based on a predetermined schedule, you also respond to urgent requests throughout your facility and determine which tasks to prioritize.
Essential Job Duties
- Installation & Commissioning: Installs instrumentation and control system components accurately. Capable of using configuration software and equipment to bring equipment into service properly. Conducts testing and verification to ensure proper operation post-installation.
- Maintenance, Troubleshooting And Repairs: Performs routine preventive maintenance on instrumentation/electrical and control systems. Inspects, calibrates, and troubleshoots instrumentation from end device back to control system. Updates firmware and software of instrumentation and associated PLCs. Repairs or replaces defective components, such as field transmitters, battery systems, control boards, and power supplies. Analyzes and interprets electrical schematics and diagrams to identify issues and implement solutions. Identifies opportunities for improving I&E system performance and reliability. Familiarity with calibration standards and implementation; perform loop checks and calibration. Experience with Modbus protocols. Assists with PLC logic changes and system upgrades.
- Safety And Compliance: Maintains a safe working environment by following proper safety guidelines, including using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Ensures all work is performed in compliance with local, state, and national electrical codes, as well as company safety expectations and guidelines. Implements lockout/tagout procedures and other safety protocols when working on electrical systems. Complies with all Company policies and procedures; adheres and is compliant to safety and environmental guidelines.
- Documentation And Reporting: Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and installations. Documents all changes in system configurations and parameter settings. Submits own timesheets timely and accurately for approval and adheres to schedule as agreed upon on the date of hire, and adjusted work schedules thereafter based on company needs.
- Technical Support And Training: Provides technical support to other team members and departments regarding I&E operations. Assists in training operators and maintenance personnel on instrument and electrical operation and troubleshooting. Stays updated on the latest I&E technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school Diploma or equivalent such as a GED
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in instrumentation maintenance with a focus on I&E systems, including but not limited to level, pressure and temperature transmitters.
- Understanding of PLC functions and operations up to and including some programming knowledge.
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, VFD operation, and motor control systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Knowledgeable with pressure transmitters and level transmitters.
- Skilled in using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and insulation testers.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call shifts as needed.
- Must be able to work regular hours, but respond to emergency items outside of regular hours.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be deemed insurable by the Company's insurance provider throughout employment to be able to drive a Company vehicle.
- Able to travel to different job sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronics, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications such as Journeyman Electrician, VFD Technician Certification or equivalent.
Physical Requirements & Working Environment
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and otherwise navigate uneven, rural terrain.
- May be exposed to loud noises, occupational hazards, and/or other outdoor elements.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
- The role may involve working in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heat, and potentially hazardous materials.
