About the role

This position provides Instrument and Electrical support for the continuous manufacture of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and specialty fluids (HDA), ensuring high standards of quality, safety, housekeeping, and employee relations. The role supports all Baystar’s manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Understand, support, and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures, including Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures, as well as industry codes/standards.
  • Work in a chemical processing facility requiring overtime, including alternative shifts to meet facility needs.
  • Perform on-call duties, responding 24/7 to plant emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Complete all assigned training by deadline.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting long-term solutions to minimize costs, improve reliability, and enhance loss control performance.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on plant instrumentation and electrical equipment, including process transmitters, control valves, lighting, electrical wiring, switchgear, motors, analyzers, HVAC, DCS, PLC, and other controls.
  • Maintain thorough notes and records of work performed.
  • Read and interpret equipment schematics, plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and process piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Assist with the design and implementation of small projects.
  • Bend and route tubing and rigid conduit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of six years’ experience in electrical and instrumentation field work.
  • NCCER certification required (may be waived with 10+ years of experience in a refinery/petrochemical facility).
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) required.
  • Must successfully complete a bench test, extensive testing, drug/alcohol screen, physical evaluation, and an extended training period.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced training in the field.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC, Variable Speed Drives, and Honeywell and/or Emerson DCS systems.
  • Refrigerant license and/or NFPA 70E Arc Flash Training.
  • Experience with high-voltage switchgear and substations.

Physical Requirements

  • Follow site safety requirements, including wearing mandatory FRC and PPE (foot, head, ear, eye, hand, and fall protection).
  • Wear a SCBA and/or facemask respirator where required.
  • Read and understand technical documents in English; requires near, far, and intermediate vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Work at ground level, from ladders, and at heights greater than 250’ on fixed platforms, mobile equipment platforms, and scaffolding.
  • Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders (with or without safety cages).
  • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 24" manways.
  • Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, crawling, walking, and climbing.
  • Sit or stand for extended periods; work at a computer for significant periods.
  • Reach overhead and at shoulder level with hands and arms; demonstrate fine and gross motor coordination (pinching, gripping, turning, keyboarding).
  • Navigate uneven surfaces, including catwalks, deck grating, and wet or muddy areas.
  • Work outside in all weather conditions, walking up to ½ mile per job.
