I&C Safety System Hardware Engineer

In this role, you will design, implement, and verify hardware solutions that meet stringent functional safety requirements and comply with nuclear regulatory standards for commercial nuclear power plants. You will contribute across the entire system lifecycle—from requirements definition and detailed design through implementation, testing, configuration management, and preparation of licensing documentation.
Responsibilities
- Performs complex non-standard engineering assignments in design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, field tasks, and resolution of field problems or quality events.
- Conducts independent reviews of department work products, risk assessments, Apparent Cause Analyses, and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
- Proposes solutions and work scope to Supervisor; works autonomously on most assignments.
- Ensures compliance with government regulations, industry standards, and customer engineering requirements.
- Evaluates, selects, and applies technical techniques, procedures, and criteria for tasks not previously performed.
- Develops new or adapted products, methods, systems, or models to provide value-added solutions.
- Understands the impact of work on internal and external organizations.
- Translates system and regulatory requirements into detailed hardware design requirements, specifications, and implementation plans.
- Develops and reviews hardware designs, system architectures, cabinet layouts, Bills of Materials, system cabling interfaces, and cabinet power design.
- Defines and supports equipment setups/monitoring for seismic, environmental, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests.
- Supports power distribution analysis, heat load calculations, response time evaluations, and uncertainty analyses for safety-related systems.
- Provides support for SAP Material Master data and Bill of Materials (BOM) management activities.
- Assists in developing and executing test methods, procedures, and validation plans.
- Develops and executes Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) plans and associated reports.
- Collaborates with system architects, software engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and licensing teams to ensure solutions are technically integrated, compliant, and licensable.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (degrees in Physics, Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science may also be accepted).
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques, and criteria.
- Familiarity with nuclear digital I&C standards and regulatory expectations for digital safety systems.
- Experience with requirements engineering, traceability, and configuration management processes.
- Hands-on experience with digital safety platforms such as safety PLCs or FPGA-based platforms.
- Experience supporting licensing submittals, audits, or regulatory inspections.
- Knowledge of Equipment Qualification and applicable regulatory standards.
- Proficiency with electrical and system CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, E-Plan, AutoCAD Electrical).
- Prior experience working in a commercial nuclear power plant environment.

Pay
Salary: $116,000 - $129,000, with potential annual incentives and performance bonuses. The base salary range is a guideline; individual total compensation will vary based on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
