Dewberry is seeking a Geospatial Analyst II for our Tampa, FL or Fairfax, VA offices. Remote positions will be considered dependent on experience. About the Role

The position involves working on Remote Sensing related projects for state and federal clients across the U.S. The primary responsibility includes working on a team performing automated and manual processing of hydrography data for the 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP). Dewberry is a leading professional services firm with over 60 locations and 2,500 professionals nationwide, known for delivering high-quality services and fostering professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and review elevation data derived from topographic lidar, topobathymetric data, or IfSAR, vector data (2D and 3D), Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), Digital Surface Models (DSMs), Elevation Derived Hydrography (EDH) data for 3DHP, Watershed Boundary Datasets (WBD), NHD, imagery, and derivative products.
  • Process large vector datasets and perform raster geoprocessing.
  • Demonstrate a conceptual understanding of fundamental remote sensing concepts and geospatial processes, including lidar sensor functionality, GPS ground survey procedures, airborne lidar trajectory processing, interaction of light and water for bathymetry, and ortho-imagery processing.
  • Work with elevation data, hydrography, hydrographic networks, and derived products.
  • Create and analyze data products and processing results.
  • Work with Watershed Boundary Datasets (WBD) and National Hydrography Dataset (NHD).
  • Perform feature extraction and attribution.
  • Assist the Product Line Lead in executing projects on time and within budget.
  • Plan and monitor production data, ensuring data management protocols are met, including proper file formats, storage, and backups.
  • Implement quality control steps to ensure deliverables meet client specifications.
  • Provide feedback and support for developing or updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Collaborate with production staff to support process improvements and work with other Technology/Process Improvement teams to review best practices.
  • Support automation of production and QC processes through technical guidance and ideas.
  • Manage tasks, resolve problems, write reports, and collaborate with team members.
  • Perform quality assurance, documentation, and provide feedback.

Requirements

  • Understanding of Lidar production workflow and the ability to explain the conceptual basis of Lidar acquisition, processing, and deliverable creation.
  • Ability to analyze point clouds and various geospatial data layers derived from point cloud data.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • GISP Certification or ASPRS certifications in Lidar or other Remote Sensing technologies (a plus).
  • Working knowledge of Python and/or other programming languages (a plus).
  • Experience with GDAL Tools and command line applications (highly desirable).
  • ArcGIS Data Review and Production Editing experience (a plus).
  • Experience with the retired National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), USGS 3DHP, or other hydrology data.
  • Experience in hydrography, H&H modeling, flood mapping, or related areas.
  • Experience creating scripts/models/macros in multiple GIS/remote sensing platforms.
  • Experience with national elevation programs, such as NOAA’s Coastal Mapping Program, USGS 3DEP, and/or USGS 3DHP.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications, e.g., Elevation-Derived Hydrography Data Acquisition Specifications, Elevation-Derived Hydrography – READ Rules, ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards for Digital Geospatial Data, USGS Lidar Base Specifications.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to pass a driving record background check.

Pay

The projected salary range for this position is $74,000–$95,000 in the Fairfax, VA office. The range may vary slightly based on skills, experience, location, and market conditions.
