(Hybrid) Lead Simulation Education Specialist - Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS)

About the role

The Lead Simulation Education Specialist facilitates the implementation of healthcare simulation educational activities for the WVU Health Sciences simulation program, specifically the David and Jo Ann Shaw Simulation Training and Education for Patient Safety (STEPS) center.

Responsibilities

• Policies/Procedure and Implementation Designs: Innovate to enhance the technology and development of STEPS.
• Strategic Oversight: Assist with strategic planning, goal setting, and execution for STEPS education programs.
• Collaborative Work: Collaborate with management and faculty in designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating new courses, scenarios, and simulation tools.
• Support Faculty: Assist faculty and instructors with development and implementation of simulation educational activities.
• Strategic Planning: Play a key role in the strategic planning process.
• Accreditation: Ensure the center maintains its accreditation.
• Operational Management: Manage daily operations, oversee equipment setup and room testing, and troubleshoot as needed.
• Staff Support: Ensure support for learners during their activities and maintain a clean and safe learning environment.
• Tours and In-services: Conduct tours and provide in-services to new faculty as requested.
• Technology Oversight: Oversee, troubleshoot, and maintain software and hardware for the Learning Management system (LearningSpace).
• Equipment Maintenance: Supervise maintenance and repairs of all simulation equipment.
• Vendor Liaison: Serve as a liaison between STEPS and vendors.
• Research: Participate in simulation research, mentor faculty, assist in writing and publishing, and present findings.
• Fiscal Management: Serve as a resource for the Director in planning and implementing budget, and assist in ordering and purchasing simulation equipment and supplies.
• Recruitment and Orientation: Recruit and orient staff, perform evaluations, and serve as an onsite supervisor in the Director's absence.
• Research Committee: Be a member of the research committee.

Requirements

• Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) within 2 years.
• Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a provider and instructor in healthcare disciplines (BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.).

Qualifications

• Experience in critical care healthcare settings, pre-hospital, or hospital environments.
• Experience in healthcare simulation education.
• Experience in course instruction/coordination in healthcare disciplines (BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.).
• Experience in supervisory roles with formal or on-the-job training.
