Job Description
Job Title: Hy-Chi Department Cook
Department: Hy-Chi
FLSA: Non-Exempt
General Function
This position is responsible for preparing various foods for the Hy-Chi department. Responsibilities include managing hot and cold cases, providing customer service, and maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines.

- Accountable and Reports to: District Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; Hy-Chi Department Manager; Assistant Hy-Chi Department Manager; Service Managers
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service
- Greets customers and addresses them by name
- Aids customers with product assistance and suggestions
- Answers the telephone and provides helpful service
- Works collaboratively with co-workers to maintain a positive work environment
- Cooks soups and meats, prepares vegetables and sauces, combines ingredients, places food in cases, and refills as necessary
- Fills the cold case with fresh-made food and prepares items for the next day
- Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
- Reports to work when scheduled and on time
Secondary Duties And Responsibilities
- Checks rice as time permits
- Takes customer orders at the Hy-Chi department counter when necessary
- Assists in other areas of the store as needed

- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing
Education And Experience
- High school or equivalent
- Training provided
Physical Requirements
- Physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Visual requirements include vision from more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with or without correction, and color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
- Able to perform the following physical activities: Balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, finger dexterity, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions

- Continually exposed to noise and temperature extremes
- Frequently exposed to cleaning chemicals/solvents
- Fast-paced work environment with significant pressure to meet deadlines
