HVAC Technician

About the role

The HVAC Technician is responsible for identifying repair and replacement needs, installing, repairing, and maintaining the County’s HVAC Systems and equipment. The position is located in the downtown area and follows a second-shift schedule. The working hours are Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Job Contributions

• Troubleshoot, repair, install, and replace: air dryers, computer room A/C, makeup air units, split package A/C & HP, VAV, VFD, pumps, chillers, air handlers, cooling towers, air wash systems, evaporative coolers, steam and hot water boilers, air compressors, exhaust fans, and gas furnaces
• Monitor, operate, and repair computerized and pneumatic facilities automation controls, negative pressure rooms, ductwork and dampers, generator and refrigerant alarms
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks on the following systems: air conditioners, heat pumps, gas furnaces, pumps, steam, and hot water boilers, cooling towers, air wash systems, evaporative coolers, air compressors, exhaust fans, blowers, VAV and VFDs, computer room A/C, air dryers; to include: water treatment, air-water filters, balancing, alignment, inspection and measurement and cleaning of above systems
• Respond to repair and service calls, emergency work orders, and maintain verbal communications with clients, field technicians, and management staff on emergency calls; monitor and control temperatures utilizing the Facilities Automation System computer
• Operate computers and mobile devices for time management, inventory, work assignments, and other related functions
• Other job duties as assigned

Working Conditions

• Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
• May be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
• May be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
• May be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations
• Subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
• May be exposed to rotating on-call/stand-by schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
