HVAC Technician 1 - DMV with Security Clearance

About the role

This position involves installing, maintaining, and repairing various HVAC systems including air handling units, boilers, cooling towers, data center cooling systems, exhaust and filtration systems, heat exchangers, heat pumps, humidifiers, piping repairs, pumps, rooftop units, variable air volume systems, and variable frequency drives. Duties also include AC unit installations, air-cooled chiller installations, boiler overhauls and replacements, commercial water heater installations, pump rebuilds and installations, and other related projects.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair various HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, package units, AHUs, and VAV systems.
• Perform complex HVAC system diagnostics and repairs, including troubleshooting down to the component level on boilers, chillers, AHUs, VAVs, heat pumps, and CRAC units.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system plans.
• Work independently, resourcefully, and safely, performing tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing to heights up to 60 feet, and working at various heights and angles.
• Communicate effectively with clients and provide proactive recommendations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and 3+ years of commercial HVAC experience; or 1+ year of experience with an associate degree.
• Commercial HVAC experience as a truck-based service technician.
• Current CFC/EPA Universal Certification (within 1 year if not currently held).
• Top Secret clearance (applicants will undergo a government background investigation).
• Valid driver's license.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Ability to travel occasionally outside normal working areas; may require limited overnight travel.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 3+ years of commercial HVAC experience; or 1+ year of experience with an associate degree.
• Commercial HVAC experience as a truck-based service technician.
• Experience working with complex HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, package units, AHUs, and VAV systems (direct digital, pneumatic, and automated controls).
• Completion of an HVAC technical training program or recognized apprenticeship (preferred).
• Current CFC/EPA Universal Certification (within 1 year if not currently held).
• Holistic understanding of mechanical equipment and HVAC design in commercial and industrial environments.
• Completion of HVAC OEM factory training or experience with Trane, Liebert, Stulz, and other major brands.
• Strong understanding of HVAC tools, machines, and their proper maintenance.
• Proficiency in using hand tools and test equipment to perform diagnostic and repair work.
• Able to complete timely documentation including maintenance reports, service tickets, and daily safety briefings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Skills

• Advanced troubleshooting skills down to the component level on boilers, chillers, AHUs, VAVs, heat pumps, and CRAC units.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system plans.
• Current Master HVAC License or equivalent technical degree.
• Experience with Liebert HVAC systems.
• Strong customer-relation skills with ability to provide proactive recommendations to clients.

Pay

The pay range for this position is USD $25.00 - USD $35.00 /Hr. The estimated annual salary is USD $85,040 - USD $88,993 based on the security clearance requirement.
