HVAC System Engineer
About the role
The Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in developing next-generation HVAC products for Garrett Advancing Motion. Reporting to the Principal System Engineer, they will own the requirements and specifications of the HVAC products, including the centrifugal refrigerant compressor and its variable frequency drive. They will interface with customers and suppliers to define system needs and design specifications, guide system design, and drive platform strategies.
Responsibilities
- Interface with customers and suppliers for system needs and design specifications.
- Guide system design considering tradeoffs between key product values and cost.
- Drive platform strategies by identifying common requirements across multiple applications.
- Drive certification activities for HVAC products.
- Perform risk analysis for the refrigerant system and refrigerant compressor systems.
- Support the development of System Architecture for our electrical products.
- Support the analysis of System working with the Quality, Functional Safety, and Design teams (FMEAs, FTAs, etc.).
- Support the development of the system integration and validation plans.
- Author User Guides for our products to provide to internal and external customers.
- Manage technical issues and coordinate through definition of problem statement, root cause analysis, and solution implementation with customer and all cross-functional teams.
- Participate in supplier panel selection, supplier development, and collaborate on supplier strategies.
Requirements
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on Air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
- 5+ years of experience in HVAC industry with focus on refrigerant compressors.
- Product launch and certification experience (UL and CE).
- Deep understanding of key product standards like EN 378, UL 60335-2-34, UL 60335-2-40, UL 61800-5-1 and UL 61800-5-2.
- Prior experience with requirements management.
- Ability to work in a team environment and negotiate solutions with electrical/mechanical and systems engineering.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
Qualifications
- Basic Qualifications:

Pay
The salary range for this role is between $120,400 and $150,000. The starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, education, training, and/or experience. In addition to the annual base salary, this role offers the following benefits: 401(k) Retirement Plan, paid holidays, vacations, and sick days.
