About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to provide day-to-day leadership and oversight for HVAC/EO operations. This position works closely with Facilities Management zone managers and serves as a key link between management and skilled trades staff to ensure high-quality maintenance, efficient use of resources, and safe, reliable building systems.
Responsibilities
- Hands-on supervision, coordination, and team development to create a well-functioning environment that supports students, faculty, and staff.
- Maintain an awareness of the maintenance workload and available resources to make maintenance decisions.
- Schedule tasks, assign technicians, replace filters, belts, lights, intake screens, seals, lubricate, preserve, and service equipment.
- Supervise emergency generator testing, small boiler and pressure vessel inspections and maintenance.
- Oversight of safety instruction, inspection of tools and equipment, and quality control of completed work.
- Work well with students, faculty & staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
- Regularly stand, lift, bend, stoop, lift above shoulders and carry 50 lbs or more.
- Work shift work when work cannot be accomplished during regular hours and when management staff deems necessary.
- Work overtime as an essential function of this position and may require work during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, & when OSU is closed).
- Maintain a personal cell phone and be continually available both during and after normal working hours.
- Perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management regardless of the weather conditions.
- Work during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, & when OSU is closed) due to emergencies.
- Adhere to all safety requirements and promote work safety.
Requirements
- High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
- Six years of work experience related to the job duties as outlined in the job description with five of those years in a field specific to the position.
- OR Two years post-secondary education in the building trades or technical field with four years of work experience related to the job duties as outlined in the job description.
- Have a valid driver's license before hire and maintain one for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
- Have a Mechanical Contractor License before hire.
- Have a Refrigeration Handlers Certificate before hire.
Qualifications
- Highly motivated team player with the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships, communicate effectively, and proactively solve problems.
- Basic computer skills including proficient use in Microsoft Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc) for departmental record keeping.
- Skilled in evaluating others' performance and ensuring adherence to stated standards.
- Skilled in conflict resolution and creative problem solving.
- Considerable knowledge of methods, standards and equipment used within the facility maintenance, repair and renovation industry.
- Ability to estimate costs and assess bids.
- Effective and accurate communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with contractors and departmental representatives.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic knowledge of building codes.
- Proficiency in the use of "AiM" Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
