HVAC Service Tech (NY) - 62622474352
Location: Brooklyn, NYC
Type of contract: Independent contractor • In-person
About the Company
NYC mechanical contractor focused on commercial HVAC for offices, restaurants, hotels, and retail. Residential work (brownstones, co-ops, condos) grew through co-op-board referrals over the following two decades.
About the Role
We are seeking a service technician who can diagnose commercial systems, not just maintain them. Where you land in the pay band depends on your experience, especially your hands-on work on mini split and VRF systems. This is a primarily service and diagnostics role. You spend your day finding faults and fixing them, not pulling new installs but will at times.
Responsibilities
- Specialize in the installation, diagnosis, repair, and commissioning of residential and commercial HVAC systems, including advanced VRF/VRV platforms (Mitsubishi City Multi, Daikin VRV) and conventional commercial equipment.
- Isolate and resolve complex technical issues, including branch controller malfunctions, communication faults, precise refrigerant charge imbalances, and electrical/control logic failures.
- Proficiently interpret line and low-voltage wiring diagrams, utilize proprietary manufacturer service tools, and analyze system error codes to ensure precise diagnostics.
- Execute comprehensive equipment startups, baseline data collection, and functional testing while performing advanced refrigerant diagnostics to optimize system efficiency.
- Leverage ServiceTitan on a company iPad to accurately document faults, execute repairs, and clearly present structured service options to clients.
Requirements
- 3 or more years of hands-on experience in commercial HVAC service.
- EPA 608 Certification and a valid, clean NYS driver’s license.
- Highly proficient in reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting line and low-voltage electrical and control faults.
- Advanced diagnostic experience with premier systems like Mitsubishi City Multi and Daikin VRV/VRF platforms, with the capability to easily leverage strong commercial fundamentals into brand-specific mastery.
- Strong focus on job site safety regulations; readiness to utilize or obtain OSHA 30 and NYC SST certifications.
Pay
$30–$40/hour (based on experience) plus a $5,000 sign-on bonus after 90 days.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM (EST).
Benefits
- Premium overtime: 1.5× base hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 in a single week.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans, plus Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
- Generous 401(k) retirement plan and company-provided life insurance policy options.
- Paid Time Off (PTO), parental leave, and a dedicated company truck for daily operations.
