About the role
The HVAC/R Service Technician – Journeyman is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and installing commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems. This role delivers high-quality workmanship, ensures system reliability, and upholds company standards while meeting customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems and related equipment
- Perform planned maintenance and inspections to ensure optimal system performance
- Install, replace, and commission HVAC/R equipment and components
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents to support service and installation work
- Work closely with dispatch to prioritize and complete service calls efficiently
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding system issues, recommended solutions, and completed work
- Maintain accurate and timely service documentation, including work orders and time reporting
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in safe and working condition
- Ensure proper inventory of parts, tools, and safety equipment in assigned vehicle
- Collaborate with team members to support workflow, share knowledge, and resolve complex issues
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry standards, equipment, and technology
- Fabricate or modify parts as needed to support repairs or system requirements
- Participate in an on-call rotation, including nights and weekends, to support emergency service needs
Requirements
- Journeyman-level HVAC/R technician or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5+ years working on commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems
- EPA Certification required
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, including electrical systems, motor controls, and HVAC/R controls
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must meet company insurance requirements)
- Proficient with technology, including tablets, smartphones, and service software
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Adaptability to changing priorities and the ability to handle multiple tasks or interruptions
- Physically able to climb ladders, access rooftops, work in confined spaces, lift and carry heavy materials, and work in a variety of indoor/outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures
- Willingness to work overtime as needed
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- On call, including nights and weekends
