HVAC Mechanic I
Job Description
Responsible for installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and operational support of commercial and industrial HVAC/R systems
Handle refrigerant and work with natural gas and propane gas systems
Perform basic pipe-fitting, soldering, and brazing
Service refrigeration equipment including walk-in coolers, freezers, rack systems, and cooling towers
Ability to read and understand blueprints.
Equipment & Systems Responsibilities
- Inspect, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and install HVAC/R equipment and associated components
- Service chillers (scroll, screw, reciprocating, and centrifugal)
- Service package and split-system air conditioning units, air handlers, exhaust fans, and make-up air (MUA) units
- Maintain return fans, variable air volume (VAV) systems, re-heat coils, and ductwork
- Service heat pumps, furnaces, and boilers (hot water and steam)
- Work with converters including HTHW, MTHW, and DMHW systems
- Service rooftop units (RTUs), pumps, motors, motor starters, and variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Service motor control centers (MCCs), electrical disconnects, air compressors, and air dryers
- Troubleshoot electronic and pneumatic control systems
Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment
- Respond to service requests and diagnose equipment malfunctions
- Complete repairs including replacement of pump seals, motor bearings, air filters, belts, sheaves, and related components
Systems & Operations Support and Troubleshooting
- Monitor equipment performance and identify operational deficiencies
- Make necessary system adjustments to ensure optimal performance
- Ensure all mechanical systems operate safely, reliably, and efficiently to support building operations
Work Environment & Additional Duties
- Work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces as required
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Education, Experience And Certification
- Preferred: Universal CFC Certification
- Preferred: OSHA 10
Work Environment
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable
- May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
