About the role

The HVAC Technician reports directly to the Director of Facilities or his/her designee. This role involves providing HVAC services, troubleshooting and repairing problems on boilers, chillers, and rooftop units (RTU), coordinating with departments, diagnosing malfunctions, installing heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems, maintaining tools and equipment, preparing documentation, and responding to emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair problems on boilers, chillers, and rooftop units (RTU)
  • Coincides with requesting department and other trades for efficient project/work order completion
  • Diagnostics malfunctions of heating/air condition/refrigeration systems and/or components for repair/replacement needs
  • Installs heating/air conditioning/refrigeration systems and related equipment
  • Maintains tools, supplies and/or equipment
  • Meets contractors and engineers for problem discussion
  • Orders equipment and supplies
  • Prepares documentation
  • Repairs various items, systems and/or components
  • Requests equipment and supplies
  • Responds to emergency situations
  • Transports various items
  • Performs preventive maintenance

Requirements

  • Graduation from a general or technical high school, and/or an Associate degree preferred
  • Possession of Universal EPA Refrigeration Certificate License and a minimum of six years of Journeyman level HVAC experience
  • Electrical abilities up to 480 volts

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of design techniques and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures and buildings
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology and other applications
  • Knowledge of electric circuit boards, processors, chips, and computer hardware and software, including building automation system
  • Ability to work with numbers, their operations, and interrelationship including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications
  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment of the HVAC trade
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precaution of the HVAC trade
  • Ability to work from blueprints, sketches and specifications
