HVAC Electrical/Programmer Engineer
Position Summary & Objective
The HVAC Electrical/Programmer Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of PLC-based control systems for custom HVAC equipment and field-installed projects. This role supports the creation of electrical designs, control sequences, and programming required to meet project specifications and operational requirements. The position works cross-functionally with engineering, fabrication, and field teams to ensure systems are properly designed, programmed, tested, and commissioned.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, program, and test PLC-based control systems for custom HVAC equipment design
Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), including system start-up and troubleshooting
Debug, troubleshoot, and modify PLC programs for existing systems
Design and document HVAC sequences of operation
Prepare electrical wiring diagrams, control schematics, and panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical
Perform electrical calculations, including MCA and MOCP, SCCR and wire sizes
Select control components and define electrical interconnections
Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for controls and electrical systems
Review and incorporate redlines and as-built documentation
Collaborate with engineering, fabrication, and field personnel to resolve technical issues
Communicate control system functionality and design intent to internal stakeholders and installation teams
Maintain organized electronic files for programs, drawings, and project documentation
Qualifications & Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum 8–10 years of experience in HVAC, manufacturing, or industrial controls environment
Strong PLC programming experience required (Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley preferred)
Experience with HVAC controls, sequences of operation, and system integration
Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical
Strong understanding of electrical power and control circuits (AC/DC)
Knowledge of HVAC systems and components (fans, compressors, coils, heaters, controls)
Familiarity with ASHRAE guidelines and NEC requirements
Familiarity with hazardous location requirements; IEC/ATEX knowledge preferred
Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, specifications, and system schematics
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Effective communication and collaboration skills
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Office-based with frequent interaction in a manufacturing and production environment
Regular computer-based programming and design work
Ability to access production areas and support equipment testing
May require extended hours during project commissioning phases
